• Choose a type of education:
    • Primary / highschool / uni / TAFE
  • Either figure out a demographic this way, or through looking at specific problems
  • Access and lack of resources are different things (Access can relate to location, whereas lac of resources can relate to different SES)
  • A possible aim could be to bridging the gap between private and public sector (bridging could encompass not just the education, but also the community, also the stigma)
    • A transition not talked about: private school to university (stopping the siginificant divide between those who attended a private school and those who attended a public school, bridging the gap)
    • Indeed it is everything around the learning that contributes to the learning (social, mental, physical health shown to improve learning)
      • The social aspect, the support network, all relates to the teaching; the learning
      • This could be a method of improving the education in low SES metropolitan schools
  • Solution needs to involve improving social engagement (as per brief, but also relating back to that idea behind everything around the learning)
  • You need to pick a demographic (for example, how do we promote active learning in low SES communities... it could be through promoting healthy habits, mental health etc)
  • When you research you create your own orbit, do not be put off by secondary research
    • Sometimes perspectives that aren't primary provide more input that primary resources themselves, so don't be constrained by getting primary perspectives
  • Unique perspective on this, by designing something for children. Solution centred around students, end goal could be around benefitting teachers live. (REFRAMING AROUND TEACHERS)
  • You could have a solution aimed to help students, through helping teachers
  • Online learning is an area rife for research — there is a lot of research on this
    • Online learning definitely disadvantages particular demographic groups
  • Parents take on the responsibilities of teachers in a home school / online school environment... we need to be able to provide them with the confidence to teach their children (perhaps a service to connect teachers to parents directly and on a more personal basis)
  • Parents have working lives at home — how do they, or rather how can they make sure their children are having quality education
    • Primary education seems most affected by this
    • Year 11 and Year 12 students also heavily affected, albeit in different ways
  • Britt’s final piece of advice:
    • I would focus on helping the parents and helping the teachers
    • Focus on solving issues for these demographics and by extension / through solving for students
  • You need a multifaceted and knock on solution for a multifaceted problem area
    • A prior example: secret health sharing acting as a way to talk about DV - apps that have dual purpose (not out of the question for a scenario like this, take this into account)
  • Multifaceted problem space requires a multifaceted solution
  • Start by Google scholaring online learning - message Britt for more specific examples as she has access to this
